Aruwa Capital Investing in the Future: How Capital Allocators Can Back First-Time & Female-Led Fund Managers in Africa

How Can Capital Allocators Invest in More First-Time and Female-Led Fund Managers?

Our member, Aruwa Capital released a new report exploring the untapped potential of first-time and female-led fund managers in Africa. The evidence is compelling: first-time funds outperform, and female-led and gender-diverse teams deliver stronger results, yet the investment landscape remains unequal. Only 12% of African funds have female partners, and since 2008, just 39 female-led funds have reached a final close, with many more still raising capital. The report sets out five actionable steps that institutional investors (LPs) can take to back these overlooked but high-performing managers. It also highlights the transformative impact that supporting diverse fund leadership can have on the broader investment ecosystem. By drawing attention to these disparities and solutions, Aruwa Capital underscores the importance of reshaping the face of investing in Africa.
